Changes to how prescriptions are issued from Monday 2nd December

Electronic prescriptions are prescriptions which are sent directly from your GP surgery to your nominated pharmacy, eliminating the need for a paper copy.  The benefits of this are that prescriptions are processed more efficiently, reducing time queuing in the practice, it reduces the use of paper and means patients can collect repeat prescriptions from a pharmacy without visiting their GP, and you won’t have a paper prescription to lose.

At Elmwood, we already use electronic prescriptions for some of our patients, but from Monday 2nd December, it is expected that all of our patients should use electronic prescriptions, following guidance from NHS England.

What do patients need to do?

If you already use electronic prescriptions, you don’t need to do anything.

For patients that have not used electronic prescriptions before, please go online and select your nominated pharmacy, or call the surgery or your pharmacy and inform us of your nominated pharmacy – the pharmacy you would like to pick your medication up from. Once you have done this, your future prescriptions will automatically be sent to that pharmacy. You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time, either online or by calling the surgery.

If you have any queries or need any support, please do not hesitate to contact one of our receptionists.
